Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to get cracks repaired now if there is no water coming out of them?
Foundation wall cracks are typically caused by concrete curing, soil shrinkage, soil expansion, or thermal movement. Cracks can cause minor problems, but over time, even minor cracks can expand and cause a loss of structural stability or, more commonly, cause your basement to leak or flood.
Repairing the cracks also helps in reducing radon & mold. Most basements, because of how they are built, eventually leak. Even if a crack is not currently leaking, water will eventually find it. Foundation Cracks, if left unfixed, can lead to larger issues.
Many homes have radon problems. You can help to minimize the entry of cancer causing radon gas into your basement by sealing cracks in the foundation and along the basement walls.
Any basement environment that has water (moisture) will advance the growth of mold. Mold will continue to grow if a moisture problem is undiscovered or unaddressed.
Mold can cause or worsen conditions such as asthma, hay fever, and or other allergies. The best and most cost effective strategy to managing the growth of mold and mildew is to prevent the intrusion of water and moisture into the basement.
If you ever plan on selling the home, unfixed cracks in concrete are the #1 reason prospective buyers look elsewhere. Selling your home also requires an inspection. At that time the home inspector is required to flag nuisance cracks in your report
What is polyurethane crack injection?
Polyurethane Injection System seals large or small cracks to prevent water from coming through.
Specially engineered polyurethane is injected into the crack. It reacts with water causing the urethane to expand up to 700 percent to prevent further leaking. In addition, the polyurethane remains pliable enough to allow for normal expansion and contraction
What is epoxy crack injection?
100% solids moisture insensitive epoxy is injected into the crack to permanently restore structural strength to cracked concrete. Unique wetting properties allow for maximum penetration into cracks above 0.005″.
What is carbon fiber structural repair?
This system is designed to add structural integrity to cracked or bowing walls. A diamond grinder is used to expose the aggregate surface of the wall approximately one foot wide.
The carbon fiber is then strategically wet laid over the crack, and can be used in conjunction with crack injection.
What product do we use?
We use state of the art products that are manufactured right here in St. Louis.
Our extensive product line includes materials used for epoxy crack injection and polyurethane crack injection for leak and structural repair.
We are also experts in wet lay-up carbon fiber systems for structural repair.
Why repair the crack from the inside of the home as opposed to the outside?
It is much more cost effective for the homeowner to be conservative when having their foundation repaired.
Some concrete contractors are quick to suggest a $20,000 or $30,000 foundation repair via excavation and installing piers or tie-back systems.
It is much more cost effective and less invasive to have the crack repaired inside the home.
